カタカナで書くもの(宿題①)

By my observation, I found that katakana can be

1. used to transcribe foreign loanwords, such as ショッピング(Shopping)、ニュース(news)
2. used to transcribe the names of foreigners and foreign places, such as アリス(Alice)、アメリカ(America)
3. used to transcribe onomatopoeic words, such as パチャッ (see picture below)
パチャッ (the sound of taking photo)

4. used to transcribe an imitative words
5. used to transcribe the names of animals and plants, such as ウサギ(rabbit)、バラ(rose)
6. used to transcribe exclamation words
7. used to emphasize the words (with reference to the lyrics of the song I found)
Title: A moon filled sky
Artist: 羽山ミズキ (CV:後藤麻衣)

  5. No doubt, a good analysis of Katakana, GJ!

And would you please help me: why Katakana can be used to transcribe animals and plants instead of Hiragana? It's my first time to see this kind of function, I don't know how to distinguish the usage between them... @n@

    Thanks!

P.S. typing in Japanese, I do be stressed...

    がぶ‐のみ【がぶ飲み】
    [名](スル)水・酒などを、たくさん、たて続けに飲むこと。「ウイスキーを―する」
    (source: goo辞書)

    I miss this word w"

がぶ is written in katakana in the comic
because of emphasis of たくさん、たて続けに (gulp)

It is a good question www

    With reference to my dictionary
we can use katakana to write
    常用漢字表の範囲内で書けない動物や植物の名前
    (The reason is the grammar...)

    In addition
although ウサギ have the kanji 兎
but 兎 is belong to a class of kanji that are seldom used

However, I found that Japanese also use hinagana to write names of animals and plants
    (as well as onomatopoeic words)
The reason is that using hinagana may be more convenient

Besides, the particles (such as を、へ、は) must written in hinagana
Obviously, they can also written in katakana for some specific purpose...

    To conclude
may be the usage and grammar of Japanese is a bit different XD
